Causes

Pure pyridoxine deficiency is rare except when the pyridoxine content of food is destroyed during processing.

Signs and symptoms

Seborrhea* like skin lesions about the eyes, nose, and mouth, accompanied by glossitis and stomatitis, or convulsive seizures, may occur during deficiency.

* Excessive excretion of sebum

Prevention and treatment

The clinical syndrome of pyridoxine deficiency is rare. Nevertheless, it may be presumed that an individual with a deficiency of other B vitamins may have pyridoxine deficiency, which can be corrected by the administration of the vitamin.
