Is a B complex vitamin also known as pteroyl glutamic acid (PGA). The entire group of compounds is known as flacon.

Food sources
Green leafy vegetables, liver, kidney and yeast are excellent sources of folic acid. Whole grain cereals, eggs and oranges are good sources of folic acid.

Functions
Folic acid is essential for normal growth and reproduction, for the prevention of anaemia and for important biochemical mechanisms within each cell. It is also involved in the synthesis of nucleic acid, the genetic building blocks for all cells.

The RDA for folic acid is 100 mcg per day.
