| Excess of copper in the body leads to Wilson's
disease, in which the amount of copper increases six - fold in the brain and liver. Causes
Excessive oral intake of copper or haemodialysis* by water contaminated with copper,
cause toxicity.
* Removal of certain elements from the blood
Signs and symptoms
Signs and symptoms associated with toxicity due to copper are haemolytic anaemia,
nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
Prevention and treatment
Treatment involves a low copper diet, preventing copper absorption, mobilising copper
deposits and promoting their excretion.
