Deficiency of Copper
Copper deficiency is common in premature and low birth weight infants.

Causes

Milk provides less copper per calorie. Low serum copper values are also noted in malnutrition.

Signs and symptoms

The symptoms associated with this are degeneration of bones and deficient function of copper mediated enzymes.

Prevention and treatment

The deficiency is treated with copper sulphate supplements.
