Deficiency of Fluoride
Causes

Deficiency of fluoride may occur due to decreased intake of fluoride in the diet or due to the malabsorption of fluoride from the intestine or due to administration of diuretics*.

* Increases urine excretion.

Signs and symptoms

The deficiency of fluoride leads to dental caries.

Prevention and treatment

Fluoride is supplemented in the water. In case of children this is deposited in the teeth. However, it is not deposited in adult teeth.
